RIVER METALS RECYCLING LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY HUB
HELPING KY GO GREEN
Economic Impact:
Our facility supports over 200 families throughout the community, most of which live right here in Louisville and the surrounding communities. Our overall operation adds millions annually to the Louisville economy as we patronize many local businesses for signage, equipment rentals, and other needs. Our teammates eat, shop and support businesses across Jefferson County as well.
Suppliers, Customers:
We are proud to provide the community a place where old cars, appliances, aluminum and other scrap metal can be recycled and put back in the supply chain, thus reducing our community’s environmental footprint and encouraging greener business practices.
-
We buy and recycle scrap metal from well-known local businesses, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to local entrepreneurs. Nucor Gallatin and other Kentucky based manufacturers use this recycled scrap metal to turn into new products on Kentucky merchandiser’s shelves for sale.
-
Two out of every three pounds of steel manufactured in the United States—including steel mills across Kentucky—starts as post-consumer and post-industrial material at sites like ours.
-
Currently, two percent of the world’s energy is spent on producing aluminum. However, producing aluminum products from recycled material is great for the environment since it requires 95% less energy than using new material. Half of all aluminum cans are recycled.
Statewide Impact:
Recycling has become a core component of the movement to make Kentucky greener. River Metals Recycling is committed to improving the environment in Louisville and is open to the public six days a week, buying everything from old cars to pop cans. The recycling process plays a key role in job creation, economic development, exports, and environmental stewardship.
-
In Kentucky, the recycling industry supports over 8,000 jobs and creates a $1.95 billion annual economic impact.
-
The Kentucky recycling industry accounts for $165 million in federal, state and local taxes.
-
More than 130 million metric tons of post-industrial and post-consumer materials are recycled annually in the U.S., providing manufactures vital raw materials.
-
RMR helps reduce depletion of natural resources and the amount of material being sent to Kentucky landfills.
